The RAZR is back and tech money

The Motorola Droid RAZR is the iPhone’s newest rival. The RAZR is equipped with a Texas Instrument OMAP 4430 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Spec-wise the new RAZR buries the 4S but usability and performance are also influenced by the OS and interface. Another competitive edge is the size–7.1mm, 127 grams, with a 4.3 inch display. I’m skeptical about MotoCast - sync and stream content from your personal cloud (your own computer). With iOS 5, Apple allows you to wirelessly sync to your computer or to the iCloud. Isn’t the cloud craze all about access to ginormous data centers for storage, and syncing anything, anywhere, anytime, and with anyone?

Speaking of iCloud, Drew Houston (Dropbox founder) said in a Forbes interview that he, “especially fears iCloud, which will surely push itself upon the 222 million people who’ve bought iPhones, iPods and iPads…” Dropbox recently raised $250M with a $4B valuation. Revenue is on track to hit $240M, which isn’t mind-blowing until you read that 96% of their customers remain untapped. These customers have not fully consumed the free limited storage…yet. Houston’s 15% piece = $600M. “…billionaires, bottles and babes.” I guess I should’ve studied harder in school. BTW – Bravo is casting for a Silicon Valley reality show.

Apple, Yahoo, and Intel also reported financials today. Both Apple and Yahoo did not meet expectations but Intel reported record revenue of $14.3M. iPhone and iPad sales were up YOY which should help reinforce BYOD initiatives and contribute to the wireless networking industry. That’s music to my ears. ;)
